We got to see dolphins and tiny crabs when we went to watch the setting sun.
The Spring 2017 Family Camping Trip was to the Newport Campground and St. Marks Wildlife Refuge. Kerrie did a great job organizing the trip and reserving a block of campsites. Several families met on April 1 and spent the day exploring the area, kayaking, and playing in the water. We shared a potluck supper and then watched the sunset by the lighthouse. Afterwards, we told spooky stories and sang songs by the campfire. We got up Sunday morning and shared a communal breakfast before breaking camp and heading home.
We didn’t do any fishing, but we did get to watch other people launch their boats. We had to come up with some low-tech fun like blowing bubbles….…and reading books. We played songs and drew pictures while the food was cooking. The potluck featured gumbo, tabouleh, chips, beans, salsa, salad, veggies, and CAKE!!! Some of our former students showed up, too! After dinner, we watched the sun go down.We got our toes wet in the waves. The wind was a little chilly. The lighthouse. The next morning was cool, but we shared fresh fruit, bagels, and granola. There was even campfire coffee for the grownups.
